This project involved major renovations to the council’s community centre to accommodate a government-funded Changing Places Toilet (CPT) facility.
The transformation of an old storeroom into a Changing Places Toilet (CPT) involved significant modifications to enhance accessibility and meet building regulations. The storeroom, initially blocked off, was repurposed by creating a 12m² extension, which required redesigning access via the car park and adding a front extension to provide adequate space for the CPT.
Roof modifications were carried out to integrate the new extension seamlessly with the existing building, ensuring structural integrity and visual continuity. Fire barriers were installed to isolate the new washroom from other areas of the building, improving fire safety and ensuring compliance with building regulations. The project adhered strictly to these regulations, with oversight from a building inspector to confirm compliance.
Inside, the CPT featured hygienic white rock wall cladding and a suspended ceiling to house lighting and utilities. Designed as a wet room, it included non-slip vinyl flooring and was equipped with adjustable features for enhanced user accessibility. New electrical wiring and emergency lighting were installed, and existing hot and cold water supplies, along with drainage from a nearby toilet, were modified to meet the CPT’s requirements.
The project was meticulously monitored by a building inspector to ensure that safety and quality standards were met, with regular inspections resolving any issues promptly.
